Ayurvastra - Concept of Ayurvedic Textiles

Ayurvastra's concept is an age-old dyeing concept which is a combination of Ayurveda Science and cloth. Where the cloth works as a mediator in carrying the goodness of Ayurveda properties and transfer it to skin, thus providing wellness.

There are three doshas in a human Vata, Pitta, Kapha A human is healthy when these three doshas are in balanced stage. When there is imbalance in dosha, it will create illness and/or diseases in the human body.

Ayurveda teaches how to balance our dosha? It goes into the root of the problem and solve the imbalances that may be due to the lifestyle, food, clothing, environment, and mindset.

Wearing only Ayurvastra cannot cure any diseases. The total change of our lifestyle and proper consultation with Ayurvedic Doctor only can cure the imbalances. Ayurvastra fabrics can only support the curing process. Ayurvastra takes clothing as a medium for the wellness.

As per Indian philosophy, the human body is made with Five Elements (PanchaBhoota - Space, Earth, Water, Air, and Fire). Nowadays, the human lifestyle changes because of industrial and technological development and started deviating from natural foods to synthetic foods, natural clothes to synthetic clothes.

Positive mind to trustful mind because of these changes, a lot of diseases or illness are growing.  Infact hospitals and medical stores are increasing shows that the diseases are not controlled and increasing.

Ayurvastra - How it Works in Human Body?

The skin is a large, complex and important part of the body. It protects the body from disease agents that are constantly trying to enter and physical forces that stress its integrity. Without the skin, the rest of our body’s organs would not last long. In fact, our skin is our body’s number one line of defense against anything in the outside world that might harm our health.

Ayurvastra is dyed using medicinally rich herbs in such a way it holds all the goodness of the herbs preserved in our Ayurvastra Technology. When a user wears Ayurvastra textile it forms the second layer of the skin. Generally skins have pores (opening) and it also absorb and emits heat as per the environmental condition on wearing Ayurvastra clothings.

Ayurvastra shades are having earthly shades that come to the mind Ayurvastra fabric feelings on the skin relieves the stress because the fabrics are not treated with synthetic chemicals. The feeling is like you are wearing a natural grass or leaves in our body.

These fabrics are completely organic and the raw materials used are certified by concerned authorities. We use cotton, wool, silk, bamboo, coir, linen, jute, and hemp, etc.

Comparison between Ayurvedic, Natural, & Synthetic Dyeing

Ayurvastra dyeing process is a unique dyeing method. Which we have summarized in the below table

Process

Ayurvedic Dyeing

Natural (Conventional) Dyeing

Synthetic Dyeing

Fabrics or Yarn

We use only natural fibre like Cotton, Silk, Linen, Jute, Bamboo, Wool and so on.

Apart from natural fibres, synthetic or petro chemical yarns are also used.

Synthetic or petro chemical yarns and all types of fabrics are used for dyeing.

Pre-processing of fabrics

Desizing: we used Natural surfactants like soap nut / araapu / leaves.

Scouring: We use whey milk and natural alkaline's.

Bleaching: Bleaching is done naturally using limestone, sunlight.

Many natural dyes use chemicals for pre-processing because cheap and easy work.

Many natural units use washing soda, bleaching powder, chlorine, etc. for pre-processing.

Toxic synthetic chemicals and high viscosity wet agents.

Caustic soda, paroxide / chlorine are used which cause heavy damage to the water bodies and the environment.

Dyeing

The dye extracts are directly taken from medicinal rich herbs. Some herbs itself will act as a mordant and dye.

Even through dye extracts are from natural sources but for fixing colors many toxic and heavy metals are used.

For making bright colors harmful chemical dyes like formaldehyde, Chrome, Copper, Dioxin and zinc are used for making colors.

Fixing

Natural herbs and natural mineral fixtures are used for finishing the fabrics.

Organic chemicals fixtures are used for finishing the fabrics.

Many type of fixtures are derived from a different chemical process which can create health problems.

Softening

Softener is made from natural oil, natural castor oil, aloe vera and natural emulsifying agents.

Eco-friendly chemical softener or synthetic softener is used.

Highly toxic chemical fixtures and softeners are used.

Gumming / Finishing

This is a special process made to give wellness to the fabrics with a unique finishing.
